Some wedding days are meant to be shared with a crowd, and others are meant to be just the two of you. Sage and Jeff chose to share a more intimate experience for their July elopement in LaGrange, Georgia, and it was the sweetest morning.
With Jeff stationed at Fort Benning, they wanted a day that felt true to them without all the extra fuss. They didn’t want to drive all the way to Atlanta, Georgia, but also couldn’t find exactly what they were looking for in Columbus, Georgia. We settled for somewhere in the middle – at Hills and Dale’s Estate. We started our morning at Hills & Dales Estate, taking advantage of an early appointment before the Georgia summer heat really got going. (July in Georgia is no joke, y’all.) I know most couples opt for a sunset appointment here -but trust me when I tell you the morning light was just as pretty and significantly cooler.
The gardens were absolutely stunning this time of year, and the greenhouse was INCREDIBLE. Between the lush greenery, historic architecture, and all the little corners tucked throughout the grounds, it was the perfect place to slow down and make some photographs together. The staff was also incredibly kind, even giving us a ride up to the estate from the gift shop on their little tram. Honestly, a pretty charming way to kick off the morning.
Since Sage and Jeff were planning an intimate ceremony with just the two of them, we booked a photography session at the estate rather than their full elopement package. After exploring the grounds and making photographs, we headed into town to a quiet square for their ceremony. I lead them through a sweet ceremony, traditional vows, exchanging of rings, and then they shared their personal letters to each other. We were all 3 crying over how sweet and sentimental the ceremony was.
I loved that there was no big production, no packed timeline, no audience to worry about. Just two people choosing each other and making a day out of it. I love when couples give themselves permission to do things their own way. Your wedding doesn’t have to follow a particular formula to be meaningful, and an elopement can be every bit as intentional as a big celebration.Sage and Jeff’s morning was a sweet reminder that sometimes the best wedding days are the ones that leave room to simply be together. Here’s some of my favorite photos from our time together.
