A Romantic Urban Elopement in Atlanta, Georgia

Somewhere between a slow morning, a handwritten vow, and a slice of pizza, Maria and Michael created the kind of wedding day that feels like a really good love story.

A couple who are stationed at Fort Benning, these two decided to run away for the weekend and celebrate their marriage their own way. Their vision? Classic, romantic, and a little urban. No stress, no packed timeline. Just the two of them, a hotel room at the Four Seasons, and a whole city to explore.

When I arrived, Maria was putting the finishing touches on her vows while Michael was busy creating a bouquet from flowers he’d picked up at Trader Joe’s. They finished it together, helped each other get dressed, and eased into the day without rushing a single thing. Honestly, more of this, please.

After a few photographs in their hotel room, we wandered out into the surrounding streets, eventually finding a historic building that felt like the perfect backdrop for their ceremony. As an ordained minister, I had the honor of guiding them through the vows they’d chosen for one another. They shared a prayer, exchanged rings, repeated their vows, and then spoke their own personal promises.

And then it rained.

Instead of hiding from it, Maria and Michael leaned right in. We laughed, danced in the rain, and made photographs that felt a little cinematic and a lot like them. The rest of the afternoon unfolded just as naturally: a photo booth, a slice of pizza, and a slow wander back toward the hotel as the sun began to set.

This is what I love about intimate weddings and elopements. You get to build a day around the things that actually matter to you, leaving room for the unexpected moments that become your favorite memories.

Maria and Michael’s city elopement was proof that a wedding doesn’t need to be elaborate to be extraordinary. Sometimes, all you need is each other, a little rain, and nowhere else you need to be.
