I had the INCREDIBLE privilege of capturing a styled shoot last month in Columbus, Georgia put on by Festive & Flair and Bridle & Brew.
For those new around here styled shoots are set up with a few intentions: to build portfolios, to collaborate, to gain marketing materials, and to test out some creative process that you haven’t gotten to try before. I personally love styled shoots because there’s room to play and experiment without the rush of trying to stay on a timeline.
The best part of styled shoots is hands down the community and connections built. There’s nothing like watching other artists and creators come together to make something happen. Here are the vendors that pulled this together:

I don’t do enough appreciation posts on here but in honor of Husband Appreciation day (April 16th) this one goes out to all of the hubbies for showing up for your spouses not only on your wedding day but every day after as well. Do you believe in the power of manifestation? Let me tell you this is not something that I ever considered until this past year. But when I tell you that us documenting this wedding was most certainly an act of manifestation or an answered prayer. Either way – it was a divine connection and I’m beyond glad that it happened.
I remember the day I got the inquiry – I about fell out of my chair! Are you kidding me right now!?!? These people are literally my ideal clients. It just so happens that morning I was meditating / praying that all of the things that I was stressed about would be resolved in the way that they were meant to. We were working on a bathroom project that was failing miserably and I desperately wanted to shoot some more weddings. Not even 7 hours later I got a message from Olivia about us shooting their wedding.
What the heck does that have to do with your bathroom? Well it just so happens that Olivia was engaged to a SUPER talented guy who does tile work and we were in desperate need of the help. So they hired us to do their wedding and we hired him to tile our shower! It was every bit of small business magic. (Side note – if you ever need tile work in Columbus Georgia, Monty Tile & Stone is the way to go!!)
Anyway Olivia and Terry are our ideal clients in so many ways and their day was absolutely perfect. It was an intimate gathering with their closest friends and family, did not include traditions that they did not want, and everyone had the best time. The wedding was on a rainy Saturday in December at The Illges House – a historic home in Columbus, Georgia.

Grace & Matt Fennema
Grace is a dear friend who I have spent many and many hours contemplating the complexities of life with. We met at an interview weekend for graduate school at the University of West Georgia and that connection turned into us being roommates. Two years of living together as adult roommates means we had a lot of heated arguments about toilet paper, time in the bathroom, and driveway parking spots. But we also shared a lot of deeply profound moments, lots of tears, and even more ice cream dates. One thing we had in common is that we are both artists and that quickly became a bond for us, so you can imagine that I was thrilled when Grace asked me to photograph her big day.
I did not know much about Matt prior to this day except how happy he made Grace. Their love story is completely captivating and is chalk full of details that I will keep to myself out of respect for their privacy but trust me when I tell you it is one that will leave you in tears. It is everything a love story should be – filled with sparks and romance, but more importantly filled with purpose. When you struggle alongside someone and continue to choose them, there is no greater way to celebrate that than marriage.
Before we get to the photos of their wedding, let me just tell you that Grace is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to artistic talent and vision. Matt wanted a galaxy themed wedding and Grace most certainly made it happen, all the way down to galaxy glitter cotton candy bombs for the toasts. Their perfect day happened at the Tallahassee Garden Club in the heart of downtown Tallahassee on a busy game day but you wouldn’t know it at this intimate little location.

Kaycee and Ahmad were the very first people to reach out and ask for me to shoot their wedding. I remember getting the text and being OVER THE MOON, but also really concerned because I had never shot a wedding on my own. I had 2nd shot a few weddings but for the most part – I felt completely lost when it came to how to navigate the entire conversation.
If you would have told me a few years ago that I would be booking weddings on purpose as a photographer I would have told you that you were INSANE. I had no interest in shooting events because I thought they would be too stressful and I didn’t think I could handle it. Fast forward – after a few years of working in Housing at a University, I became pro at handling difficult conversations, stressful situations, and dealing with some rowdy drunk folks.
Between when they asked me and when I shot their wedding, a few opportunities came through for me to shoot and I realized how much I truly enjoy capturing someone’s big day. So when Kaycee and Ahmad’s big day came – we were ready! This was also the first event that Brandon joined me with for video so keep an eye out for a wedding highlight reel coming soon. It was a huge day for our company, spreading our wings as an a-dorrill-ble duo (;
A quiet little ceremony and reception at the Concord Event center in Concord, Georgia on a perfect sunny day. The weather was pleasant, the entire day went smoothly, and we captured so much of their love. Below is a list of vendors from the day and some of our favorite images.

We love offering mini sessions because they are affordable and it’s a super fun day to meet lots of new faces and that momentum just carries into the next session. Our first mini session day for our new business was on January 24th at Dowdell Knob at FDR State Park near Shiloh Georgia.
You can see the set up for our mini session below:
I mean seriously! Look at this VIEW! It’s so incredible. If you have not been to Dowdell knob -you are missing out! I may be a little biased – but I think this is the best view in FDR State Park.
You can easily drive up right to the best viewing spot so if hiking is not your gig- and you just want to skip straight to the good stuff – then this is definitely a go to place.
Being a state park there is a $5 parking fee – which is definitely a must because that’s how they pay to keep up the park so please make sure to pay and get your parking tag.
Its perfect for:
- Romantic Picnics – there are plenty of places to sit on a blanket and enjoy the view
- Couples, Maternity, or Family Photos – again because of that VIEW (it is pretty windy most days so keep that in mind)
- Hiking – there are trails all over FDR State park that lead to and away from Dowdell Knob
- An afternoon getaway – its only about 45 minutes from Columbus GA
- A place to take the kids – there is a playground and lots of picnic tables for lunch or a snack break
